F3 approached Mountain Dev with a critical issue: their existing interactive map—a key tool for connecting new members to local workout groups—was underperforming. Specific challenges included: no mobile responsiveness, creating barriers for on-the-go users trying to find workout locations; UI that didn't align with F3's brand identity; and limited filtering capabilities that made it difficult for users to find workouts that matched their preferences and schedules. These limitations were hindering F3's ability to grow their community and connect new members with local groups—a core part of their mission.

the solution

Mountain Dev completely rebuilt the F3 interactive map from the ground up, focusing on user experience, performance, and brand consistency. Our solution included:

  • Responsive Design Implementation: We engineered a fully responsive interface that provides a seamless experience across all devices—from desktop to tablet to mobile. This was particularly important as many users search for workouts while on the move.
  • Intuitive User Interface: We designed a clean, intuitive interface that aligned perfectly with F3's existing brand aesthetics while dramatically improving usability. The redesign maintained brand consistency while providing a more engaging user experience.
  • Advanced Filtering Capabilities: We implemented a comprehensive filtering system that allows users to easily find workouts based on Workout type and intensity level, Day of the week, Time of day (early morning, afternoon, evening), Special events and gatherings, Location proximity and accessibility.
  • Performance Optimization: New user accounts and customizable favorites lists transformed the experience from a one-size-fits-all approach to a personalized weather platform.

  • User-Centered Discovery: We kicked off the project by working closely with F3 leadership and surveying real users to understand how men across different regions discover and join workout groups. This helped us identify pain points, usage patterns, and feature expectations—particularly among mobile-first users.
  • Experience Strategy & UI Redesign: We crafted a strategy to align the interactive map’s interface with F3’s brand identity—bold, accessible, and community-driven. Wireframes and prototypes were iterated quickly to ensure the new design not only looked great but solved real usability issues.
  • Mobile-First Rebuild: Recognizing that many users search for workouts while on the go, we rebuilt the map with a mobile-first mindset. The new responsive design ensured seamless navigation across smartphones, tablets, and desktops, without compromising performance or functionality.
  • Intelligent Filtering Development: To empower users to find workouts tailored to their schedules and fitness levels, we implemented a robust filtering system. Users can now search by day, time, intensity, location, and special event—making the map a powerful tool for discovering the right workout.
  • Performance-Driven Engineering: We re-architected the backend and frontend to handle large datasets with speed and precision, ensuring that hundreds of workout locations could load and interact smoothly—even under heavy traffic.
